Les Eyzies in the Dordogne (Périgord Noir)
Les Eyzies de Tayac is one of the most frequently visited villages of France. Pre-history has left many traces there.

Les Eyzies is the first site where the Cro Magnon was discovered, an ancestor of the Homo Sapiens. The most important places to visit are the cave "Font de Gaume" and the "Musée National de la Préhistoire". The museum contains one of the largest prehistoric collections available worldwide.

Les Eyzies lies on the banks of the river Vézère, a tributary of the river Dordogne. Many journeys by canoe or kayak start from different canoe bases in Les Eyzies. The surrounding area is highlighted with countless mediaeval castles, cave dwellings, churches and chapels.

At the same time, Les Eyzies is a cosy little town with plenty of tourist facilities. There are lots of restaurants and little shops where you can find typical regional dishes (pâté de foie gras, truffles,...) as well as prehistory gift items.
